Intro to Improv will introduce you to to the history and basics of improvisation. You will learn how to let go, have fun, and say YES! We will focus on getting you comfortable on stage and in front of an audience, while teaching you how to use certain techniques and "give gifts" to your scene partners that will help keep your scenes moving. This is also a great class for those students who  do not necessarily wish to beccome actors or comedians, but wish to simply break out of their shell or feel more comfortable in front of people. Whatever you wish to accomplish from the class can be addressed in the beginning and focused on with our help throughout the course. We look forward to meeting you!

Characters
Prerequisite: Intro to Improv
Next Class: TBA
Characters will help you embrace being someone else on stage, with specific nuances and layers that every person is born with. A character does not have to be someone with a wild accent or a strange quirk - the best ones are believable! A character with lots of layers can simply be someone named Scott who works for a moving company or someone who has two dogs and a boyfriend. Building a character is all about what you make of it - your mind is in charge and you can use any idea you want to make that character a believable person. This class will focus on exploraing all the fun ways to create interesting people, while keeping it real.

Scene Work
Prerequisite: Characters
Next Class: TBA
Scene Work is just what is sounds like. We will focus on using the tools gained from Intro to Improv and Characters to develop effective, interesting scenes. We will focus on group work, often referred to as "the group mind," which is very important in scene work. Improv is all about teamwork - if one improviser gives you the gift of naming you Sherry and asks about your three kids, that is fantastic, but you must work with it and BE Sherry with three kids! Otherwise, you are saying NO to your scen partner, which is the opposite what makes improv work. This class will also focus on transitions, edits, cuts, and other fun improv tools that keep scenes and shows moving along.

Improv Forms
Prerequisite: Scene Work
Next Class: TBA
Improv Forms is currently the most advanced class that we offer. After you have the basics, characters, and scene work down, we will then focus on the various forms, or styles, of improv. The two basic forms are short-form (games, typically high-energy, isolated stories, etc.) and long-form (longer scenes, stories, emotion, etc.). There are very specific forms such as the Armando, Harold, Deconstruction, the Bat, etc. that this class will cover and allow you to experiment with. At the end of this course, we will even challenge you to create your own improv form with your fellow classmates and use it for your student show!

If you have any suggestions or wish there were a specific class you could take, but you do not see it here, please feel free to e-mail us your idea and we will see if we can put it on the class list! We are also working on hosting a stand-up workshop for any comics who wish to try out new material in front of other comics without having to go to an open mic night. E-mail or call us if interested the stand-up workshop. We look forward to hearing from you!
